Professor Elqobai Rachida started as a high school teacher before earning her Ph.D. in Linguistics from Purdue University. She became a professor at FST Marrakech and now trains future educators at the Centre de Formation des Enseignants. In this NOTA, she discusses the rise of private schools, the downfall of Arabization, her upbringing, the struggles of Moroccan teachers, and the challenges in classrooms—not just the lack of materials but under-resourced support, and tough teaching environments.
