🎙️ Welcome to Revise and Resubmit — the podcast where research comes alive, and papers find their voice.

Today, we open the doors to the often whispered, seldom studied corners of family enterprises — where success stories are celebrated, yes, but where dysfunction brews quietly behind polished boardroom doors. In this episode, we’re diving into the paper titled “Families and Their Firms Behaving Badly: A Review of Dysfunctional Behavior in Family Businesses,” authored by Roland E. Kidwell, Kimberly A. Eddleston, Linda A. Kidwell, John J. Cater, and Ellison Howard — and published in the prestigious Family Business Review, proudly listed as an ABDC A Journal.

With insights drawn from a sweeping review of 160 studies across 64 journals, this work challenges us to rethink how and why family firms sometimes spiral into chaos. Is it the firm? Is it the family? Or is it a tangled dance of both, shaped by pressures from within and storms from outside?

As we unpack how dysfunction takes root — from sibling rivalries to legacy expectations — one question lingers: When a business is a family, and a family is a business, who draws the line between personal and professional... and what happens when no one does?

Huge thanks to the authors and Sage Publications for this incredible contribution.
