Title:
Typology of Threat Culture in the Metaverse
Abstract:
This study explores the concept of "threat culture" within the metaverse, proposing a comprehensive framework for understanding and addressing harmful behaviors in these virtual environments. The paper draws upon established theories from communication, social psychology, and marketing to develop a four-dimensional typology that categorizes threats by their medium (physical, mental, or verbal), severity (subtle, gentle, or harsh), actor (individual, through others, or by influencing others), and cause (anger, delusion, or greed). The study argue that this framework provides a valuable tool for platform managers, policymakers, and users to navigate and mitigate threats in the metaverse, ultimately creating safer and more inclusive digital spaces.
